Our Lawn Fertilization Program: What It Is and Why Your Yard Needs It

Our Lawn Fertilization Program: What It Is and Why Your Yard Needs It — Loera's Landscaping DFW blog

Some people think a lawn that looks like the one in this photo is just luck — good soil, the right grass, maybe a generous sprinkler system. It isn't. It's a plan. A few well-timed feedings through the year, the right blend for the season, and consistent mowing on top. That's it. That's the whole secret.

We started getting enough questions about it that we built a real program around it.

What Our Lawn Fertilization Program Is

It's a season-long, scheduled fertilization service for North Texas yards. We come out on a regular cadence, apply the right blend for the time of year, and adjust based on what your lawn is actually doing — not a one-size-fits-all bag from the big-box store.

A typical year looks like:

  • Early spring — pre-emergent + a slow-release nitrogen feed to wake the lawn up and stop crabgrass before it sprouts
  • Late spring — full nutrient feed to push deep green-up and dense top growth
  • Summer — slow-release feed sized for heat, plus iron for color without burning the blades
  • Early fall — recovery feed to rebuild after the August grind
  • Late fall — a winterizer to feed the roots and set up next spring

We also keep an eye on weeds, fungus, and grub pressure as we go. If something needs a spot treatment, we handle it.

Why It Actually Matters in DFW

North Texas soil is clay-heavy, the summer is brutal, and most of our common grasses (Bermuda, Zoysia, St. Augustine) are heavy feeders. Without a fertilization plan, three things happen:

  1. The color fades. Lawns turn yellow-green, then washed-out, then patchy.
  2. Weeds win. A thin, hungry lawn loses every fight to crabgrass, dallisgrass, and clover.
  3. Summer stress hits harder. Underfed turf goes dormant earlier, recovers slower, and can lose ground for good.

A good fertilization program flips all three. Thicker turf chokes weeds out on its own. Deeper roots handle the August heat. And the color — well, the photo at the top of this post is one of our regulars after a normal mow. No filter, no special angle.

How It Works

We do a quick walk of the property, look at what type of grass you have, what shape it's in, and how much sun it gets. Then we put you on a schedule and just show up. You don't have to think about it.

Most of our customers bundle it with mowing, which means we're already there — no extra trip charge, no surprise visits, no "the technician came when I wasn't home" mystery. Same crew, same trailer, same trust.
